WANTED: Delegates for the Dutch Delegation to Harvard National Model United Nations

Do you want to compete with America's best at Harvard?
Are you interested in international politics and the United Nations?
Do you want to experience first hand what it is to participate in a United Nations Conference?

Then, participate in the

Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) 2005

HNMUN
From February 17th to 20th over 2300 students from the best universities from all over the world will gather in Boston to engage in open, constructive discussion about today's challenges for international relations. During the 51st session of the Model United Nations organized by the prestigious university of Harvard, participating students will work on compromise and consensus building while at the same time trying to protect 'their' country's interests. Goal of the large scale simulation is to impress upon the participants the importance of international cooperation and the United Nations.

Participants
For the second time, a Dutch delegation of about 30 to 40 academic students will be present at HNMUN. This year's objective is to give an outstanding performance and, by doing so, to compete for the HMNUN Awards. We are looking for motivated academic students (both Dutch and non-Dutch) who appreciate the importance of the United Nations ideals and are interested in international politics. Good knowledge of English is required and debating skills will be appreciated.

Preparation
An all-English preparatory track will run from October 15th till February 16th. The Netherlands' best professors and experts in the international field will give lectures on the United Nations, world politics, international law and diplomacy. Apart from that, much attention will be given to the training of skills. You will get ample practice in American style debating, lobbying, giving presentations and resolution writing.
The first part of the track will take place on Dutch soil, alternatively at Radboud University Nijmegen and other universities. Early February, your training will be completed at the United Nations Headquarters and the Permanent Representation of The Netherlands in New York. Participation in the programme will earn you a grade and 8-10 ECTS, the conference will be the ultimate exam.

Costs
Participation costs include the participation fee for HNMUN, your flight ticket, hotel and travel expenses and study materials. The costs will amount to approximately 800-1000 euros. We expect that the larger part of these costs will be sponsored. However, this sponsoring will for the greater part be your own responsibility. Last year, many of the delegates were able to receive full sponsoring.

How to apply
Interested? Apply by sending your letter of motivation and a recent resume (both in English) to: admission@unitednetherlands.nl. The deadline for application is the 17th of September. More details on the application and selection procedure will be available from August 17th onwards at www.unitednetherlands.nl.
Please forward this information to anyone who might be interested in participating.
